High-g sensing for impact and shock logging
The STMicroelectronics H3LIS331DLTR is a digital accelerometer that measures acceleration across three axes (X, Y, Z) over a selectable range of ±100g, ±200g, or ±400g — this is a high-g device, not a tilt or vibration sensor. The sensitivity scales with the range: 20 LSB/g at ±100g drops to 5 LSB/g at ±400g, so the raw digital resolution is coarser at the highest range, but the part captures the full shock profile without clipping. The output is digital via I²C or SPI, which means the host microcontroller reads acceleration data directly without an external ADC. The bandwidth is programmable from 25 Hz to 500 Hz — the upper limit governs the shortest shock pulse the sensor can resolve; a 1 ms impact event requires at least 1 kHz bandwidth, so this part is suited to events lasting 2 ms or longer.
Supply, package, and temperature grade
The part is not specified for 1.8 V operation — if the host MCU runs on a 1.8 V rail, a level translator on the I²C/SPI lines is needed. Housed in a 16-VFLGA package (supplier device package 16-TFLGA, 3x3 mm), the footprint is compact enough for handheld or embedded shock loggers.
