What this 18-channel Zener array is and where it was used
The STMicroelectronics ESDA6V1S3RL is a Zener-based transient voltage suppressor array from the ESDA / TRANSIL™ series, packing 18 unidirectional channels into a single 20-SO wide-body package. It provides clamping protection for up to 18 signal or data lines against electrostatic discharge and other transient overvoltage events, with a reverse standoff voltage of 5.25 V and a minimum breakdown voltage of 6.1 V. The part was designed for general-purpose ESD protection on multi-line interfaces — think parallel buses, ribbon cables, or connector banks in telecom line cards, industrial I/O modules, and consumer electronics where board space was tight and you needed one component to protect an entire port.
Each channel is rated for 200 W peak pulse power. The 18 channels share the same substrate, so the total energy budget is the package limit, not 18 × 200 W; if you expect simultaneous strikes on multiple lines, derate accordingly.
