The BTB16-600CRG is a standard triac from STMicroelectronics rated for 16 A RMS on-state current and 600 V off-state blocking voltage. This combination suits it for switching resistive or inductive AC loads up to roughly 4 kW on a 230 V line — heaters, small motors, solenoid valves, or lighting banks — where the load current stays within the 16 A continuous ceiling and the peak line voltage does not exceed the 600 V blocking capability. The 160 A / 168 A non-repetitive surge current rating at 50/60 Hz gives the margin for lamp inrush or motor starting transients without exceeding the device's surge capability. The 25 mA maximum gate trigger current and 25 mA maximum hold current mean the gate drive must source at least 25 mA to latch the triac on, and the load must draw at least 25 mA to keep it conducting through the zero-cross — a concern with very light loads like small indicator lamps or low-wattage transformers.
