1500W Zener TVS for general-purpose surge clamping
The STMicroelectronics 1.5KE68ARL is a unidirectional Zener transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) diode from the 1.5KE TRANSIL™ series, rated for 1500W peak pulse power at 10/1000µs. Its 64.6V minimum breakdown voltage and 58.1V reverse standoff make it a fit for clamping surges on 48V nominal rails or similar DC buses in general-purpose industrial and telecom equipment. The DO-201AA axial package suits through-hole assembly and field replacement on existing boards.
New production has ceased, and no last-time-buy window is open. For BOM lines that still call out this order code, procurement must turn to independent distribution or the surplus market.
The 64.6V minimum breakdown sets the voltage at which the device begins to conduct avalanche current. For a 48V nominal bus with tolerance up to 58V, this part stays transparent during normal operation (the 58.1V reverse standoff is the maximum DC voltage that can be applied without conduction). When a surge exceeds the breakdown threshold, the TVS clamps the transient to a maximum of 121V at the rated 83A peak pulse current — a key number for verifying that downstream components survive the clamped event.

Housed in a DO-201AA (DO-27) axial-lead package, the 1.5KE68ARL is a through-hole device intended for wave soldering or hand-soldering into plated through-holes. The axial lead form is common in point-to-point wiring and board-level surge protection where a low-inductance path matters. No special moisture-sensitivity level is stated, but standard handling for axial diodes applies.
