Device overview: bidirectional Zener TVS for high-voltage rail protection
The STMicroelectronics 1.5KE350CARL is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from the 1.5KE TRANSIL™ series, designed to clamp transients on DC or AC power rails up to 299V continuous. It provides a single bidirectional channel in a through-hole DO-201AA / DO-27 axial package, rated for 1500W peak pulse power (10/1000µs waveform). The minimum breakdown voltage is 332V, with a maximum clamping voltage of 618V at the peak pulse current of 16A (8/20µs). Typical applications include general-purpose surge protection in industrial power supplies, telecom equipment, and AC line protection where bidirectional clamping is needed.
For new designs, select a current-production bidirectional TVS in the 1.5KE series or equivalent family with similar voltage ratings (299V standoff, 332V breakdown). Stock is limited to existing inventory; confirm availability and pricing at quote time.
Key ratings for fit and replacement
The reverse standoff voltage of 299V defines the maximum continuous DC or AC peak voltage the diode can withstand without conducting. The minimum breakdown voltage of 332V ensures the device starts clamping before the protected circuit's voltage exceeds its rating.
Package and mounting for retrofit
Housed in a DO-201AA / DO-27 axial leaded package (supplier device package DO-201), this through-hole part is suitable for point-to-point wiring or PCB mounting with 0.042-inch diameter lead holes. The axial leads allow easy replacement in existing designs without board layout changes. Capacitance is 215pF at 1MHz, which is typical for a high-voltage TVS and may affect high-speed signal lines — verify signal integrity if used on data lines.
