TRANSIL™ TVS for 85.5V rail protection
It delivers 1500W peak pulse power per the 10/1000 µs waveform, with a reverse standoff voltage of 85.5V and a maximum clamping voltage of 178V at 56A peak pulse current.
Clamping window and surge capacity
The minimum breakdown voltage is 95V, so the part begins conducting between 95V and the clamp ceiling of 178V. For a 48V or 72V DC bus with a 20% tolerance, the 85.5V standoff provides enough margin to avoid nuisance triggering during normal operation while still clamping well before the downstream capacitor or IC rating. The 1500W peak pulse rating (1.5kW) means this diode can absorb a single 56A, 10/1000 µs surge without failing short. In a typical telecom or industrial power supply input, that covers lightning-induced surges up to the IEC 61000-4-5 Level 4 combination wave when paired with a series impedance. Capacitance is 575 pF at 1 MHz — typical for a 1500W bidirectional TVS in this voltage class. That capacitance loads a signal line by about 575 pF, which is acceptable for 50/60 Hz power or low-speed control signals but will round off edges on a data line above 100 kHz.

Through-hole axial assembly note
The DO-201AA (DO-27) axial package requires a 1.0 mm to 1.2 mm plated through-hole on the PCB. The body is 9.1 mm long with 25.4 mm lead spacing typical. It survives wave solder without special moisture sensitivity precautions — no MSL rating needed for a glass-passivated junction in an axial leaded package.
