Wide-body SOIC with reinforced isolation
The SI8715BD-A-IS is a single-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Skyworks Solutions, built with capacitive coupling technology. It delivers 5000 Vrms of isolation in a 6-SOIC wide-body package (7.50 mm width) with gull-wing leads for reflow assembly.
15 Mbps with 35 kV/µs transient immunity
The 15 Mbps data rate covers common isolation needs for CAN, RS-485, and SPI buses. Propagation delay is 50 ns max (both edges), with pulse-width distortion held to 25 ns — the skew budget matters for symmetrical waveforms like PWM gate-drive signals or clock distribution. Common-mode transient immunity is 35 kV/µs minimum. In a motor-drive environment where IGBT switching edges slam the bus with several kV/µs, this rating keeps the output from glitching — the isolator does not misinterpret the transient as a data edge. Typical rise and fall times are 2.5 ns. Fast edges reduce dynamic power consumption but require a clean PCB layout — a ground plane under the trace and a series damping resistor near the output pin prevent ringing on longer interconnects.
Supply range and channel direction
The lower end suits battery-powered or 2.5 V-logic systems, but the output side also needs its own supply — there is no integrated isolated DC-DC converter. The channel is unidirectional with one input on side 1 and no input on side 2. This is a forward-only isolator; for bidirectional communication (e.g., half-duplex RS-485), two devices or a dedicated transceiver with integrated isolation are needed.
ROHS3 compliant with no exemptions, and the supplier device package is listed as 6-SDIP Gull Wing — a wide-body SOIC footprint that mates with the 6-SOIC-7.50 mm land pattern.
