16-bit RL78/G23 MCU for industrial control and HMI
The Renesas R7F100GPN3CFA#AA0 is a 16-bit RL78/G23 microcontroller with a 32 MHz core, 768 KB Flash, 48 KB RAM, and 8 KB EEPROM. It has 88 I/O lines in a 100-LQFP package and integrates capacitive touch, LVD, POR, PWM, and WDT. Data converters include A/D 20x10b, 8x12b and D/A 2x8b. Supply range is 1.8 V to 5.5 V, operating temperature -40°C to 105°C.
768 KB Flash and 48 KB RAM — what it means for the BOM
The 768 KB Flash is large enough to hold a full Modbus TCP stack, a capacitive-touch library, and a local HMI frame buffer without external memory. The 48 KB RAM supports moderate data logging and multi-protocol buffering. The 8 KB EEPROM (emulated or dedicated) stores calibration constants and node configuration across power cycles — no external serial EEPROM needed, saving a BOM line.
Connectivity and peripheral set
Serial interfaces include CSI, I²C, LINbus, SPI, and UART/USART — enough for sensor buses, display links, and LIN nodes in automotive-adjacent applications. The capacitive-touch unit handles up to 20 channels for membrane keypads or proximity sliders without a dedicated touch controller. Internal oscillator eliminates the external crystal for most timing tasks, though an external clock can still be fed in.
