55V 38A TrenchMOS in DPAK — automotive-grade power switch
The NXP BUK7230-55A,118 is an N-channel TrenchMOS power MOSFET from the Automotive, AEC-Q101 qualified series. The DPAK (TO-252) surface-mount package keeps the footprint compact for automated assembly in power stages, load switching, and DC-DC conversion blocks.
Temperature range and junction limits
Operating junction temperature spans -55°C to 175°C, which covers under-hood automotive, industrial motor drives in hot enclosures, and outdoor telecom power supplies. The 88W power dissipation at case temperature gives thermal headroom for continuous conduction — but the junction limit is the binding constraint for real load profiles, not the package tab.
Gate drive and switching
Gate threshold voltage is 4V maximum at 1mA drain current, but the on-resistance is specified at 10V drive — so a 10V gate rail is needed to hit the rated 30mOhm. The input capacitance is 1152 pF at 25V drain bias, which is moderate for a 38A device. That Ciss figure drives the gate charge and therefore the switching loss in a hard-switched converter; a gate driver with enough peak current to charge it in the target dead-time is the design-in check.
Package and assembly
Surface-mount reflow profile follows standard MSL for DPAK; the tab needs a good solder joint or thermal-via stitch to the PCB copper plane to keep junction temperature in check at high current.
