16-bit bus transceiver for 3.3V systems
The NXP 74LVT16245BBX,518 is a 16-bit non-inverting transceiver from the 74LVT BiCMOS logic family, organized as two 8-bit elements with independent direction controls. It handles bidirectional data flow between two buses, with 3-state outputs that let multiple drivers share the same line.
Output drive and bus loading
Each output can source 32 mA and sink 64 mA, which is enough to drive a heavily loaded parallel bus or a long backplane trace without external buffers. The 64 mA sink capability is notably higher than the 24 mA typical of many 3.3V logic families — useful when the bus capacitance exceeds 50 pF or the trace length runs past 10 cm. At these drive levels, the 60-HXQFN package's exposed pad becomes important for thermal management; a via-stitched ground plane under the pad keeps the junction temperature in check during continuous bidirectional traffic.
The 125°C junction rating means the part can sit next to a hot processor or power stage without derating the output current.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is ROHS3 compliant, which means the lead-free solder finish and material set meet the current EU RoHS exemption limits without relying on any pending sunset clauses.
