Telecom fit — why this series lives on the power rail
Telecom equipment — DSLAMs, optical line terminals, base station power modules — runs 48 V or -48 V bus rails feeding PoE injectors and DC-DC converter front ends. The single bidirectional channel means this is a unidirectional clamp — it protects a positive-going transient relative to ground. For a bipolar or AC signal line you would need the bidirectional variant; the base number 5.0SMDJ7.5C (single letter C, no S suffix) is the bidirectional version in the same series.
