What 12.71V clamping means for your circuit
The 1.5SMC8.2 is a unidirectional Zener-type TVS in the Littelfuse 1.5SMC series, housed in the DO-214AB (SMCJ) SMC package — surface-mountable for automated assembly. Rated 1500 W peak pulse power at 10/1000 µs, its job is to clamp transients before they reach downstream circuitry. The standoff is 7.02 V typical reverse standoff — the TVS idles below this in normal operation. That clamping figure is the one that determines whether the protected IC survives: 12.71 V is what the downstream rail sees under the rated surge event. The 1.5SMC family is a general-purpose TVS series — no power-line protection flag (confirms it), so it is not designed for AC line-front protection but for secondary clamping on DC rails.
Obsolete — sourcing reality
Sourcing runs through independent distribution: lot-specific inventory, full traceability and authenticity verification confirmed at quote time. For a new design the entire 1.5SMC series should be evaluated for a current-production equivalent with the same standoff and clamping envelope.
