Key ratings and what they mean for the protection design
The 1.5SMC36: The 30.5 A peak pulse current (Ipp) at the 53.4 V clamping level tells you the surge the diode can divert without failing. Breakdown voltage range starts at 32.4 V minimum — the point where the diode begins to avalanche. The 53.4 V clamp voltage is the maximum voltage the load sees during the pulse.
Package and thermal fit
Single unidirectional channel — designed for DC rail protection where polarity is fixed. The DO-214AB footprint is common across the 1.5SMC series, so a board layout can accommodate multiple voltage variants from the same family.
