This power rating means it can clamp a 108.4A transient pulse (8/20µs waveform) down to 99.5V, protecting downstream telecom circuits from lightning-induced surges and inductive load dumps. The reverse standoff voltage is 47.8V, with a minimum breakdown of 53.2V — the protection window starts conducting at 53.2V and clamps hard at 99.5V. For a 48V telecom bus, this leaves enough margin above the nominal rail to avoid nuisance triggering during normal ripple, while still catching overvoltages before they reach the line card.
