1500 W Zener TVS — what the ratings mean for the BOM
The 1.5KE82-B is a 1500 W (1.5 kW) peak pulse power Zener TVS diode from Littelfuse's 1.5KE series, designed to clamp transient overvoltage events on a 70.1 V nominal rail. The 118.65 V maximum clamping voltage at 13.5 A peak pulse current (10/1000 µs waveform) defines the voltage the downstream circuitry must survive — any device rated below that clamp sees the full spike.
Unidirectional clamping in an axial package
A single unidirectional channel means this diode conducts only on positive transients above the breakdown threshold; a reverse-polarity or AC line would need a bidirectional part. The DO-201AA / DO-27 axial leaded package is a through-hole form factor suited for point-to-point wiring or PCB mounting where the leads are bent and soldered — common in power supply inputs, telecom line cards, and industrial control boards where a 1500 W transient absorber is needed without surface-mount reflow.
Obsolete — sourcing through independent channels
Littelfuse lists the 1.5KE82-B as Obsolete. No official successor order code is recorded. The 1.5KE series remains a widely used TVS family, so functionally equivalent parts from the same series (same package, similar standoff voltage) may be available as drop-in alternatives, but no pin-compatible second-source is formally documented.
Operating envelope and temperature grade
Rated for continuous junction temperature from -55°C to 175°C, the 1.5KE82-B covers the full industrial and automotive ambient range. The 1500 W peak pulse power is specified at 25°C; derate above that per the datasheet curve — at 100°C ambient the effective pulse power drops to roughly 75% of the 25°C rating.
