The TPSA225K010T1800: This is a KYOCERA AVX TPS series molded tantalum capacitor, 2.2 µF ±10% capacitance with a 10 V DC rated voltage. The 1.8 Ohm ESR at 100 kHz sets the ripple current ceiling — for a 100 kHz switching regulator output, the self-heating from ripple current stays within the derating curve as long as the RMS current is under ~100 mA. The 1206 (3216 Metric) case is the standard footprint for this density; the A case code means the seated height is 1.80 mm max, which fits under most low-profile PCB keep-outs.
Avionics black boxes, downhole logging tools, and outdoor telecom base stations where the PCB sees 105°C ambient plus self-heating all stay inside the operating envelope. The molded construction provides mechanical stability across the temperature sweep — no conformal-coat cracking risk that wet tantalums can exhibit.
