The TPSA224K050A7000 is a molded tantalum capacitor from KYOCERA AVX's TPS series, rated 0.22 µF with ±10% tolerance at 50 VDC. The 1206 (3216 Metric) case measures 3.20 mm x 1.60 mm with a seated height of 1.80 mm, fitting standard pick-and-place and reflow profiles. The 7 ohm ESR at 50 V means this cap handles moderate ripple without excessive self-heating — suitable for decoupling and filtering in power rails where a ceramic's capacitance drop under bias is a concern.
Temperature range and rework considerations
The molded body and standard 1206 footprint rework cleanly under hot air — the part has clear polarity marking (stripe on the anode end), so orientation is unambiguous. The 1206 case has enough thermal mass that a standard 350°C hot-air profile lifts it without pad damage, provided the board is preheated to 100°C to reduce thermal shock to the tantalum element.
