Capacitance, voltage, and ESR — the three numbers that size your rail
The TPSA156M006R1500: 15 µF capacitance at 6.3 V rated voltage, ±20% tolerance. The 1.5 Ohm ESR (equivalent series resistance) is the number that sets ripple-current capability and self-heating — for a given ripple current, the I²R loss in the capacitor is directly proportional to this ESR. A 1.5 Ohm ESR is typical for a 1206-case tantalum at this capacitance and voltage.
Temperature grade — where this cap can live on the board
The 125°C upper limit means it survives near-engine-bay temperatures, though derating for voltage and ripple current above 85°C is standard practice — consult the TPS series derating curve. No NRND or EOL flags — the TPS series remains a current offering from KYOCERA AVX, suitable for new designs.
Package and footprint — layout fit check
1206 (3216 Metric) case, size code A per manufacturer. Footprint dimensions: 0.126" x 0.063" (3.20 mm x 1.60 mm), seated height 0.071" (1.80 mm). Standard two-terminal molded chip — no polarity marking confusion; the anode end is marked with a band.
