4000Vrms isolation — photovoltaic output for gate drive
The Infineon PVI5080NSPBF is a single-channel photovoltaic optocoupler from the PVI series, designed to provide galvanically isolated drive voltage for power MOSFETs and IGBTs. The 4000Vrms isolation rating suits motor-drive, industrial inverter, and power-supply applications where the control and power stages must be electrically separated.
8µA output — what it means for MOSFET drive
The 8µA output current per channel is the key constraint when selecting this part for gate drive. That current charges the gate capacitance, so turn-on time is directly proportional to the total gate charge of the driven MOSFET. For a typical small-signal MOSFET with 1 nC gate charge, the 300µs typical turn-on time is acceptable; for a larger device with 50 nC, expect turn-on in the tens of milliseconds. The turn-off time is specified at 220µs typical, driven by the internal discharge path. This part is best suited for applications where switching speed is secondary to isolation integrity — fault detection, soft-start circuits, or static switch control.
Industrial temperature range and surface-mount package
The 8-SMD gull-wing package with 4 leads is a compact surface-mount footprint, compatible with standard reflow soldering profiles. The ROHS3 compliance ensures no lead or restricted halogens in the solder joints.
