The 700 V Vdss gives you a solid margin on a universal-input (85–265 VAC) rectified DC bus that peaks around 375 V. The 600 mOhm Rds(on) at 10 V gate drive is modest by today's standards — expect conduction losses around 0.6 W per amp of RMS drain current — but the 22 nC gate charge keeps switching losses manageable, so the part can run at 65–100 kHz in a flyback without the gate driver struggling. Continuous drain current is rated 10.5 A at 25°C case temperature, derated to about 6.6 A at 100°C case. The 86 W power dissipation ceiling assumes you have the heatsinking to pull heat out of the TO-220 Full Pack; without a heatsink, keep the dissipation well under 2 W.
Infineon lists the IPAW70R600CEXKSA1 as obsolete. The CoolMOS CE family has been superseded by newer generations that offer lower Rds(on) and faster switching, but pin-compatibility varies by package and gate-drive requirements — there is no drop-in replacement with the same order code.
Package and mounting — through-hole, isolated tab
The TO-220-3 Full Pack (Infineon code PG-TO220-3-FP) is a through-hole package with a fully molded back — no exposed metal tab, so the drain is not electrically connected to the heatsink surface. Plan for a heatsink with a flat mounting surface and use thermal grease or a pad. The three leads are standard 0.1-inch pitch, easy to hand-solder or wave-solder.
