The Infineon IPA50R280CE is a 500 V N-channel CoolMOS MOSFET in a TO-220-3 Full Pack package. Rated for continuous drain current of 13 A at 25°C case temperature and a maximum on-resistance of 280 mOhm at 4.2 A with 13 V gate drive, it targets medium-power offline SMPS designs in the 100–300 W range.
Infineon lists the IPA50R280CE as Obsolete. That means no further production runs, no last-time-buy window — the part is out of the factory channel.
500 V drain-source voltage (Vdss) sets the off-state blocking capability — enough for universal-input PFC stages (bulk voltage around 400 V) with healthy derating margin. The 280 mOhm Rds(on) at 4.2 A and 13 V gate drive determines conduction loss: at 4.2 A drain current, expect about 4.9 W dissipation from Rds(on) alone, which fits within the 30.4 W package limit at case temperature. Gate charge of 32.6 nC at 10 V is modest — a standard 1 A gate driver can switch it in the 50–100 kHz range without excessive drive loss. Input capacitance of 773 pF at 100 V Vds keeps the Miller plateau manageable for simple bootstrap or half-bridge topologies.
