Flyback controller with integrated 650 V MOSFET — 240 W ceiling
The ICE2A765P is an offline flyback PWM controller from Infineon's CoolSET™-F2 series, integrating a 650 V avalanche-rated MOSFET and the control logic in a single TO-220-6 formed-leads package. The 240 W power rating defines the output capability in a standard flyback topology, making it suited for AC-DC adapters, auxiliary power supplies, and industrial bias rails where isolated output is required.
Switching frequency and duty cycle — transformer design anchors
The 100 kHz fixed switching frequency sets the transformer core size and the EMI filter corner — a common choice balancing magnetics volume against switching losses. The 72% maximum duty cycle limits the output-to-input voltage ratio in the flyback converter; for a universal AC input (85-265 VAC) the reflected voltage and the 650 V breakdown margin must be checked at the lowest line. Start-up is triggered at 13.5 V on the Vcc pin, and the controller operates from 8.5 V to 21 V after the auxiliary winding takes over. The built-in soft start prevents inrush current stress on the output capacitor during initial power-up.
Fault protection set — five independent triggers
The ICE2A765P includes current limiting, open-loop detection, overload protection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage protection on the Vcc rail. These are latched or auto-restart depending on the fault type — the datasheet's fault matrix determines the reset behaviour for each condition. The junction temperature range of -25°C to +150°C covers industrial ambient environments with adequate margin for self-heating in a TO-220 package.
Active production — sourcing and compliance
The device is ROHS3 compliant (fully exempt, no lead or restricted substances). Through-hole PG-TO220-6-46 package — bulk packaging.
