What this clock generator does on your board
The Cypress CY28506OCT is a PLL-based spread spectrum clock generator that takes a crystal input and produces four clock outputs at up to 166.7 MHz. Its primary job is reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) by modulating the output clock frequency across a small band, spreading the radiated energy so it passes FCC or CISPR limits without heavy shielding or ferrite beads. The 1:4 fanout ratio means one reference crystal feeds four loads — a typical setup for clocking a processor, memory controller, and peripheral bus from a single source.
Supply rail and temperature — where it fits
Supply voltage range is 3.135 V to 3.465 V. Operating temperature is 0 °C to 70 °C.
Package and mounting
Housed in a 28-SSOP package (0.209″ body width, 5.30 mm), surface-mount only. The supplier device package is also 28-SSOP, so no footprint ambiguity. Standard reflow profile for SSOP applies; no unusual moisture sensitivity level is stated, but store the reels in a dry cabinet if the floor life label is missing — SSOP packages can absorb moisture and pop during reflow.
Sourcing and lifecycle note
Product status is Active. RoHS compliance is marked non-compliant.
