The ceramic body handles higher-temperature soldering profiles and offers better moisture resistance, but it also means the part is RoHS non-compliant (lead-bearing solder terminals). For designs going into EU markets or any RoHS-regulated jurisdiction, you will need an exemption or a plan to use a compliant alternative. The through-hole mounting suits prototype boards, socketed evaluation, or legacy equipment repair where surface-mount rework is impractical.
The ceramic package helps with thermal cycling reliability compared to plastic, but the 85°C ceiling is the hard limit for junction temperature in continuous operation.
