Active general-purpose op-amp in a hermetic can
The OP20HJ is a single-circuit general-purpose operational amplifier from the OP20 series, offered in a TO-99-8 metal can package for through-hole mounting. It delivers a gain-bandwidth product of 100 kHz with a slew rate of 0.05 V/µs, drawing just 60 µA of supply current.
With a slew rate of 0.05 V/µs and a gain-bandwidth product of 100 kHz, this op-amp is designed for low-frequency signals. For a 1 V peak output swing, the full-power bandwidth is roughly 8 kHz. It will not track fast edges or high-frequency AC signals; use it for DC amplification, low-frequency filtering, or buffering where the signal content stays below a few kilohertz.
Low quiescent current for power-sensitive designs
The 60 µA supply current is notably low for a general-purpose op-amp, making this part a candidate for battery-powered or loop-powered applications where every microamp matters. The 5 V minimum supply also allows operation from a single lithium cell or a 5 V rail.
Package and mounting — TO-99-8 metal can
The TO-99-8 metal can is a hermetic, through-hole package. It offers better environmental sealing than plastic DIP or SOIC packages, which is relevant for high-humidity, corrosive, or military/aerospace environments where long-term reliability is critical. The metal can also provides some RF shielding. The through-hole mounting requires a drilled PCB and soldered leads — not a surface-mount process.
It is RoHS non-compliant, which is typical for hermetic metal-can packages that use lead-based solder seals. For new designs requiring RoHS compliance, a surface-mount plastic-packaged alternative would need to be evaluated.
