Comparator with onboard reference
The MAX9118EXK is a single comparator with an integrated 1.236V voltage reference, housed in a 5-pin SC-70-5 package. It operates from a 1.6V to 5.5V supply rail. The 'Beyond-the-Rails' input stage allows the comparator inputs to swing from -0.3V to 5.8V regardless of the supply voltage, eliminating the need for input clamping diodes in many sensor interfaces.
Low-power signal chain fit
Quiescent current is 1.3µA maximum, making this comparator suited for battery-powered threshold detection and wake-up circuits where every microamp counts. Propagation delay is 14µs typical — fast enough for DC level sensing, over-voltage detection, and slow-changing analog thresholds, but not intended for high-speed PWM or zero-crossing loops. CMRR is 66dB typical and PSRR is 40dB typical, so the threshold accuracy holds up against common-mode shifts and supply ripple in a mixed-signal environment.
Package and rework consideration
SC-70-5 (SOT-353) is a small-outline package with 0.65mm pin pitch. The exposed die attach pad is absent — the part sits on the leads alone, so the hot-air profile is forgiving.
Lifecycle and compliance
RoHS compliance is not claimed — the part is marked RoHS non-compliant. Verify your assembly's exemption status or request the RoHS-compliant suffix variant if available.
