The MAX774CSA+ is a buck-boost PWM controller from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) that generates a regulated negative output voltage from a positive input rail. It uses a single inductor in a buck-boost topology, switching at 300 kHz to drive an external transistor. The controller is configured for a single negative output and includes an Enable control feature. The 3 V to 16.5 V supply range lets it work from common rails, making it a flexible choice for generating a negative bias rail in systems that only have positive supplies.
Housed in an 8-SOIC package (0.154" body width, 3.90 mm) with a surface-mount footprint, the MAX774CSA+ is a standard layout component that reflows alongside other SOIC-8 parts. No synchronous rectifier is built in, so the external diode and MOSFET selection determine the efficiency curve.
It is not specified for automotive or extended industrial use where ambient temperatures drop below 0°C or exceed 70°C.
