LED display driver with I²C — what it drives and where
The Maxim Integrated MAX6955ATL+ is a LED display driver IC that drives 7, 14, or 16 segment LED displays via an I²C interface. It operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply and draws 22 mA typical supply current. The driver is housed in a 40-WFQFN exposed-pad package (also specified as 40-TQFN, 6x6 mm) for surface-mount assembly.
Package and thermal — the exposed pad matters
The 40-TQFN (6x6) package has an exposed pad. Without that, junction temperature can exceed limits at high drive currents or elevated ambient. The Tube shipping format means each tube holds a fixed quantity — factor that into kitting and reel-vs-tube handling if your pick-and-place line expects tape.
