VFD driver for high-voltage panel applications
The MAX6922AQH+D is a vacuum-fluorescent display driver from Maxim Integrated. It uses a 4-wire serial interface to shift out display data to the VFD tube's grid and anode segments. The part accepts a supply range of 8V to 76V, covering both the logic rail and the high-voltage anode supply typical in automotive dashboard and industrial VFD panels. Supply current sits at 1.65 mA, which keeps the power budget tight in always-on displays. The 44-PLCC package (J-lead, surface mount) saves board area compared to through-hole alternatives.
The wide supply range (8V to 76V) means this driver can run directly off an unregulated 12V or 24V automotive rail without a separate boost converter for the VFD anode. That saves a DC-DC stage and its associated inductor and capacitor cost. At the high end, 76V covers most VFD tube bias requirements without an external voltage multiplier. The 1.65 mA supply current is the chip's own draw; the actual VFD tube current comes from the anode supply through the driver's output stages, so the total system current depends on the tube's segment load.
ROHS3 compliance is confirmed.
