Package and board-fit — 8-TDFN with exposed pad
The MAX6470TA15BD3+: The 8-WDFN Exposed Pad (3x3 mm body, supplier package 8-TDFN-EP) demands a thermal land on the PCB — the exposed paddle is the primary heat path for the 300 mA output. Surface-mount only — no through-hole variant exists for this order code. The 0.65 mm typical lead pitch on the TDFN package requires a solder-paste stencil aperture that matches the land pattern in the Maxim application note for the package family.
Output configuration and voltage options
This is a positive LDO with an adjustable/fixed output. The factory-programmed fixed output is 1.5 V, but the part also supports an adjustable configuration via an external resistor divider — the minimum fixed output is 1.2 V. That means the same BOM line can serve either a fixed-rail design or a tunable rail, depending on how the FB pin is terminated.
Protection set and quiescent current floor
Four protection features are integrated: over-current, over-temperature, reverse polarity, and short-circuit. The reverse-polarity protection is notable for a portable or battery-powered design where the input connector can be miswired — it saves an external Schottky diode on the input rail. The 136 µA quiescent current is the typical draw at no load; in shutdown the Iq drops further, but the datasheet's shutdown current is not listed here — budget this into the standby budget for always-on rails.
