The MAX5943AEEE+ is an N+1 ORing controller that drives an external N-channel MOSFET in redundant power-supply ORing configurations. It targets FireWire applications. The 100 ns turn-off delay is the headline speed figure: when the input voltage drops below the output, the controller shuts the external FET in 100 ns, preventing reverse current that could collapse the output rail. That speed matters for hot-swap and redundant-supply designs where millisecond delays cause bus droop.
