Product details

Hot swap controller for -48V networking backplanes

The MAX5901LAETT+ is a single-channel hot swap controller from the Simple Swapper™ family, designed to manage inrush current and protect against fault conditions in high-voltage negative-rail systems. Its -9V to -100V supply range covers the standard -48V telecom bus and the -72V nominal used in some industrial power architectures. Drawing only 500 µA from the supply rail, the controller's own power dissipation is negligible even in dense line-card designs where thermal budget is tight.

Programmable protection and fault handling

The controller integrates a programmable circuit breaker, current limit, slew rate control, and UVLO — all set with external resistors or capacitors. The auto-retry and latched fault options let the designer choose between automatic recovery after a fault clears or a hard latch that requires a power-cycle reset. A fault timeout prevents the controller from staying in current limit indefinitely, protecting both the pass element and the load. The thermal limit shuts down the internal switch if the die temperature exceeds the safe operating area, adding a second layer of protection beyond the electrical limits.
