What the MAX5527GUA is and where it fits
The MAX5527GUA is a one-time-programmable (OTP) linear-taper digital potentiometer from Maxim Integrated. It is designed for applications where a fixed resistance setting is programmed once during manufacturing or calibration and never changed in the field — think trim pots for power-supply output voltage, sensor offset nulling, or laser-trim replacement in industrial controls and instrumentation.
OTP means no field updates
Because the wiper position is programmed once and locked, the MAX5527GUA suits designs where the resistance value must be permanent and tamper-proof. There is no software re-trim, no EEPROM wear concern, and no risk of a field change altering the calibration. This also means the BOM must be finalized before programming — no iterative tuning after assembly.
Lifecycle and compliance note
One important compliance detail: it is RoHS non-compliant, which rules it out for designs requiring RoHS exemption-free assemblies. Verify your BOM's environmental requirements before specifying.
