What this dual DAC does on the board
The MAX5231AEEE is a 12-bit, serial voltage-output dual DAC from Maxim Integrated — two independent analog outputs on a single serial interface, useful for trimming, set-point generation, or bias control in mixed-signal boards where the micro's DAC channels ran out.
The MAX5231AEEE is RoHS non-compliant. For legacy builds or military/aerospace contracts that still accept tin-lead solder, it is a direct fit — no lead-free reflow profile adjustment needed.
Package and handling at the bench
Supplied in Bulk — loose tubes or trays, not tape-and-reel. For a rework tech, that means the part arrives without carrier-tape static shielding; store it in conductive foam or a bag until placement. The package itself is a standard surface-mount SOIC or QSOP footprint — orientation mark is clearly defined on the top mold, so pin 1 identification is straightforward under a stereo microscope.
