6A peak drive in a standard SOIC-8 footprint
The MAX4420CSA-T is a single-channel, non-inverting low-side MOSFET driver from Maxim Integrated, rated for 6A peak source and sink current. It drives N-channel or P-channel MOSFET gates with a typical rise and fall time of 25ns, making it suitable for switching power supplies, DC-DC converters, and motor drive stages where fast gate charging is needed to minimise switching loss.
Supply range and logic thresholds
The device operates from a 4.5V to 18V supply rail, covering the common gate drive voltages for 5V, 12V, and 15V logic and power MOSFETs. The logic input thresholds are 0.8V (VIL) and 2.4V (VIH), so a 3.3V or 5V logic signal from a controller or PWM source will drive it directly without level shifting.
Temperature grade and deployment scope
It belongs in indoor, temperature-controlled equipment — benchtop supplies, office power adaptors, consumer electronics — not in an engine bay or a rooftop telecom enclosure where the ambient can swing below freezing or above 70°C.
Package and mounting
Housed in an 8-SOIC package (0.154-inch body width, 3.90mm width), surface-mount. The standard SOIC-8 land pattern applies; the 0.50mm pitch is manageable on a two-layer board for low-to-moderate current traces, though a ground plane under the driver helps thermal management when driving high gate charge loads at frequency.
Lifecycle and compliance flag
For designs that must meet RoHS or similar regulations, a lead-free alternative should be selected; for exempt military, aerospace, or medical applications where leaded solder is still permitted, this part remains a valid choice.
