76 V current sense amp for wide-rail monitoring
The MAX4081SASA+T from Maxim Integrated is a single-channel, high-side current sense amplifier designed to measure load current across a shunt resistor on supply rails from 4.5 V up to 76 V. The 150 kHz -3 dB bandwidth covers DC load monitoring, overcurrent detection, and low-speed current loops — it is not intended for switching-regulator feedback or motor phase current sensing where higher bandwidth is required. The 8-SOIC package is a common footprint that fits standard PCB layouts for current-sense applications.
Supply current and input bias — low burden on the monitored rail
Quiescent supply current is 103 µA, and input bias current is 5 µA. Together these mean the sense amplifier itself draws minimal current from the monitored rail, which matters for always-on current monitors in battery-backed systems or where the sense resistor voltage drop must stay small. The 100 µV input offset voltage sets a floor on the minimum measurable shunt voltage — for a 10 mΩ shunt, that offset corresponds to a 10 mA zero-current error, so size the shunt voltage drop accordingly.
