Elliptic switched-capacitor filter — 8th order, 50 kHz cutoff
The Maxim Integrated MAX297EPA is an 8th-order elliptic low-pass switched-capacitor filter in an 8-pin DIP package. It delivers a sharp roll-off characteristic typical of elliptic (Cauer) filters, with a cutoff frequency set at 50 kHz by the internal clock. The single filter channel operates from a 4.75 V to 11 V single supply or a split ±2.375 V to ±5.5 V rail, suiting it for both single-supply analog chains and bipolar signal conditioning. This part is aimed at anti-aliasing and reconstruction filtering in data-acquisition paths, as well as tone-decoding and frequency-selective stages where a steep transition band is needed. The 50 kHz cutoff places it at the boundary between audio-band and low-ultrasonic applications — think ultrasonic ranging receivers, vibration analysis front-ends, or high-speed modem channel filters.
Active lifecycle, RoHS non-compliant — plan your assembly line
The trade-off is RoHS non-compliance, which means the leads are tin-lead (SnPb) plated.
Sourcing and supply posture
As an active Maxim (now Analog Devices) part, the MAX297EPA is available through the independent distribution channel.
