Product details

Filter type and cutoff — what the 50 kHz corner means for your signal chain

The MAX296ESA+ is an 8th-order Bessel lowpass switched-capacitor filter with a cutoff frequency of 50 kHz. The Bessel response gives maximally flat group delay across the passband, so a pulse or square wave passing through the filter retains its shape without overshoot — critical when the downstream ADC or comparator expects an undistorted edge for timing. The switched-capacitor architecture sets the corner frequency by an internal clock or an external capacitor; the 50 kHz cutoff is the rated center frequency, meaning the filter is tuned for anti-aliasing or reconstruction in the audio-to-low-ultrasonic band. Single filter section per package.

Supply rails — single or split, 4.75 V to 11 V total

The dual-rail option lets the filter swing around ground without a DC bias network — useful when the signal source and load are already bipolar. The 50 kHz corner is stable across the full supply range, but the switched-capacitor clock feedthrough amplitude scales with supply voltage, so a clean rail is worth the decoupling effort.

Package and board-fit — 8-SOIC, surface-mount

Housed in an 8-pin SOIC narrow-body (0.154-inch width, 3.90 mm body), the MAX296ESA+ uses the standard SOIC-8 footprint. The supplier device package is 8-SOIC. Supplied in a tube; no reel or tape option on this order code.
