Dual USB power switch with integrated fault protection
The Analog Devices MAX1823BEUB is a dual high-side USB power switch designed for applications where a single 5V VBUS rail must be distributed to two downstream ports with independent on/off control. Each channel delivers a minimum of 720 mA through a typical 90 mOhm N-channel MOSFET, keeping conduction loss low enough that the 10-uMAX package can handle both channels without a heatsink in normal ambient conditions. The switch integrates adjustable current limiting, over-temperature protection, reverse-current blocking, short-circuit protection, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), so a single device covers the fault-handling requirements of a USB host port without external supervisory circuitry. The load-discharge feature pulls the output to ground when the switch is off, preventing a floating VBUS that could hold a connected device in an indeterminate state.
Supply range and output ratings
The switch is powered from the load voltage rail, as Vcc (Vdd) is not required. This simplifies the power tree but means the part cannot operate below 4V.
Lifecycle and sourcing
It is not RoHS compliant per the current listing, which is a flag for designs that require full RoHS exemption-free compliance — verify your assembly house's policy on non-RoHS parts before committing the BOM.
