Eight-channel high-side driver with diagnostic feedback
The Maxim Integrated MAX14900EAGM+TCKT is an eight-channel high-side power switch rated for 850 mA per output, with a typical on-resistance of 85 mOhm. It integrates a full suite of fault protections — current limiting, open-load detect, over-temperature, over-voltage, and undervoltage lockout — and reports status via a dedicated Status Flag output. The part is controlled through either an SPI or parallel interface, giving the designer flexibility to match existing bus architectures.
Fault protection set — what it covers
The MAX14900EAGM+TCKT includes current limiting (fixed threshold), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamping, and undervoltage lockout on the logic supply. The Status Flag output (open-drain, active low) asserts on any fault condition, which a host MCU can poll via a GPIO or read through the SPI register map. For inductive loads, the integrated over-voltage clamp handles the flyback energy — no external freewheeling diode needed across the load, though a small TVS on the supply rail is still good practice for long cable runs.
SPI and parallel control — integration options
The dual interface lets this part drop into designs with either a legacy parallel bus (chip-select, data, clock, latch) or a modern SPI port. The SPI mode supports daisy-chaining multiple devices on a single bus, which is common in high-channel-count digital output modules.
The part is surface-mount only.
