-48V hot swap controller in a TSOT-23-6
The LTC4251BIS6-1#TRMPBF is a single-channel hot swap controller from Linear Technology, designed to manage inrush current and provide fault protection on -48V power rails. It operates over a supply range of -72V to -36V, covering the standard telecom -48V bus with margin for transients. The controller does not integrate the pass MOSFET — an external N-channel FET handles the current path, which lets the designer size the FET to the load current and thermal budget. Programmable features include circuit breaker threshold, current limit, fault timeout, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), and overvoltage protection (OVP), all set with external resistors and capacitors.
External MOSFET — BOM planning
An external N-channel MOSFET is required; the controller's 800 µA supply current is the controller-only draw.
The ROHS3 compliance and industrial temperature grade make it a straightforward drop-in for most -48V designs.
