Active boost regulator with 2A internal switch
The LTC3539EDCB-2#TRMPBF from Analog Devices is an active-production boost regulator with a 2A internal switch, designed for step-up applications requiring compact size and high switching frequency.
It accepts an input voltage from 0.5 V minimum to 5 V maximum, making it suitable for boosting from a single alkaline cell or Li-ion battery near end-of-discharge. Switching at 2 MHz allows the use of small inductors and ceramic capacitors, shrinking the overall solution footprint — a key advantage for handheld or space-constrained designs.
Efficiency and thermal management
The integrated synchronous rectifier eliminates the external Schottky diode typical in boost converters, improving efficiency above 90% at moderate loads and reducing BOM count. The 8-DFN (2x3 mm) package with exposed pad (8-WFDFN) provides a low thermal resistance path to the PCB copper plane, essential for dissipating heat from the 2A switch at high duty cycles.
It is ROHS3 compliant, and the tape-and-reel packaging suits automated pick-and-place assembly.
