Power factor correction for the bench
The LT1249CN8#PBF: Switching at 100kHz, it drives an external MOSFET through the 8-pin DIP package, keeping the harmonic content low enough to meet EN61000-3-2 without a bulky input filter. The supply range spans 15.5V to 27V, and the startup current is just 250 µA — low enough that the startup resistor dissipates minimal heat while the controller's internal UVLO hysteresis holds it in reset until the bias rail is solid.
Through-hole DIP — still the repair-bench favourite
For a rework tech, that means no hot-air profile to dial in — the scorch mark on the failed IC tells you which pin lifted, and a standard soldering iron swaps it in under a minute. The 0.100-inch pitch rows mate with any 8-pin DIP socket or solder into plated through-holes on a 0.062-inch board. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 100°C — commercial grade, fine for benchtop supplies, test equipment, and indoor PFC stages where the ambient stays below 70°C and the part's own dissipation is the only heat source.
