J-FET input stage — why the 5 pA bias matters
The LT1058ACN is a quad J-FET operational amplifier from Linear Technology's LT® series, built for precision analog signal conditioning where input bias current must stay in the picoamp range. The J-FET input stage holds input bias at 5 pA, which means negligible voltage drop across high source impedances — a photodiode front-end or a pH probe buffer won't see its DC operating point shifted by the amplifier's own input current.
With a 5 MHz gain-bandwidth product and 14 V/µs slew rate, the LT1058ACN can handle audio-band active filters, precision integrators, and moderate-speed data-acquisition drivers without slew-rate limiting on signals up to several hundred kilohertz. The 20 V to 36 V supply span (minimum 20 V, maximum 36 V) tells you this is a bipolar-rail part — expect ±10 V to ±18 V supplies or a single 24 V rail. It will not run on 5 V or 12 V single supply; the 20 V minimum is a hard floor.
Package and mounting — through-hole 14-DIP
The 14-DIP (0.300", 7.62 mm) through-hole package is the standard dual-inline footprint. It suits prototyping boards, socketed designs, and legacy equipment where surface-mount rework is impractical. The supplier device package is 14-PDIP.
