The ADUM4150ARIZ-RL is a 6-channel SPI digital isolator from Analog Devices in the iCoupler® SPIsolator™ family, built with magnetic coupling technology. It packs four inputs on side 1 and two on side 2, which maps directly to the typical SPI bus: SCK, MOSI, MISO, and chip-select on the controller side, with two interrupt or handshake lines returning. The 40Mbps data rate keeps up with SPI clock rates up to 40 MHz without adding a cycle of latency — propagation delay is 24ns max each way, and pulse-width distortion stays under 2ns. That timing budget matters when the bus is running near its limit through a long cable or backplane. Supply range of 3V to 5.5V on both sides means this part works with 3.3V and 5V SPI domains without a level shifter. The 5000Vrms isolation rating is reinforced-grade — suitable for medical equipment (2 MOPP with proper creepage), motor-drive interfaces, and industrial fieldbus isolation where the environment demands a hard galvanic barrier. Common-mode transient immunity of 25kV/µs minimum keeps the data path clean in noisy inverter or relay-switching environments. The 20-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm width) provides the creepage distance needed to sustain the 5000Vrms rating across the isolation barrier.
Channel count and directionality — the fit check
Six unidirectional channels with a 4/2 split (four from side 1 to side 2, two from side 2 to side 1) are purpose-configured for SPI isolation. The four forward channels carry SCK, MOSI, and two chip-select or data lines; the two reverse channels handle MISO and an interrupt or busy signal. If your SPI peripheral needs more than two reverse-direction signals — say, a second MISO or a fault output — you will need a second isolator or a part with a different channel configuration.
