What the ADUM3152ARSZ-RL7 is and what it does
The ADUM3152ARSZ-RL7 is a 7-channel SPI digital isolator from Analog Devices, part of the iCoupler® and SPIsolator™ series. It uses magnetic coupling to provide galvanic isolation up to 3750 Vrms, with a data rate of 2 Mbps. It comes in a 20-SSOP package (0.209" width, 5.30 mm). Typical applications include isolated SPI buses in industrial motor drives, PLCs, medical equipment, and solar inverters where signal integrity and safety isolation are required.
The 2 Mbps data rate is the maximum SPI clock speed the isolator can pass cleanly. For most SPI peripherals (ADC, DAC, sensors) running at 1 MHz or below, this is plenty of margin. The 3750 Vrms isolation rating is the basic insulation level — enough for reinforced isolation in mains-connected equipment per IEC 60950-1. The 25 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) ensures the output doesn't glitch when fast voltage transients slam across the isolation barrier, which matters in motor-drive and inverter environments. Propagation delay is 25 ns max, and pulse-width distortion is 3 ns max, so the SPI clock and data edges stay aligned within a few nanoseconds — important for reliable communication at the rated speed.
Package and rework considerations
The 20-SSOP package (5.30 mm body width, 0.65 mm pitch) is a standard fine-pitch SOIC variant. It reflows well with a typical lead-free profile; the body is small enough that the hot-air station can lift it cleanly if you preheat the board to 100 °C. The part is MSL 3, so bake before reflow if the moisture barrier bag has been open longer than the floor-life window.
