Five channels, 150 Mbps, 5000 Vrms — what this isolator does
The ADUM251N0BRIZ is a 5-channel general-purpose digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 150 Mbps data rate per channel with 5000 Vrms isolation, making it a fit for breaking ground loops and level-shifting across a reinforced safety barrier in industrial fieldbus, motor-drive interfaces, and isolated SPI/UART links.
Channel layout and signal direction
Four channels run from Side 1 to Side 2, one channel runs the opposite direction — a 4/1 input split that suits a typical SPI bus (SCLK, MOSI, CS, plus one MISO return) or a UART with a flow-control line. All channels are unidirectional, so plan the signal flow before layout.
Speed, timing, and transient immunity
At 150 Mbps the part keeps up with fast SPI clocks and high-speed digital links. Propagation delay is 13 ns max (both directions), pulse-width distortion holds to 4.5 ns max, and rise/fall times are a symmetrical 2.5 ns typical — tight enough to preserve signal integrity across the barrier. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 75 kV/µs minimum, which means it won't glitch when a motor drive or inverter slams a kilovolt-per-microsecond step across the isolation gap.
Package and rework considerations
No exposed thermal pad to worry about; just standard reflow profile and a clean stencil.
Lifecycle and sourcing
It is ROHS3 compliant.
