What the ADUM242D1BRIZ does on your board
The ADUM242D1BRIZ is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from ADI's iCoupler® family, built around magnetic coupling technology rather than the older optocoupler approach. It provides galvanic isolation rated at 5000Vrms between its two sides, with a 2/2 split of inputs on side 1 versus side 2. The part handles data rates up to 150Mbps with propagation delays of 13ns max and 2.5ns typical rise/fall times, making it suitable for isolating high-speed serial interfaces like SPI, UART, or CAN FD without introducing timing margin issues.
The 5000Vrms isolation voltage qualifies this isolator for reinforced insulation in industrial motor drives, grid-tied inverters, and medical equipment where patient-contact isolation is required. The 75kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the spec that matters when the isolator bridges a noisy power stage — fast-switching SiC or GaN FETs can generate dV/dt events that couple through parasitic capacitance. A CMTI of 75kV/µs means the output stays clean even when the ground plane between sides slews at that rate, preventing data corruption in inverter or UPS feedback loops.
Supply flexibility and temperature range
The 1.7V to 5.5V supply range on each side lets the ADUM242D1BRIZ bridge 1.8V low-power logic domains with legacy 3.3V or 5V peripherals without external level translation. The 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm width) provides the creepage distance needed to maintain the 5000Vrms rating across the isolation barrier.
