The ADUM240E0BRIZ is a 4-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built on magnetic coupling technology. It shifts digital signals across a 5000Vrms isolation barrier at up to 150Mbps, with propagation delays of 13ns max and pulse-width distortion under 3ns. The supply range from 1.7V to 5.5V means it can sit on a 1.8V FPGA bank, a 3.3V MCU UART, or a 5V PLC interface without a level translator. Typical applications include industrial fieldbus isolation (RS-485, CAN, SPI), motor-drive feedback paths, medical equipment requiring reinforced insulation, and any mixed-voltage system where ground loops need breaking.
The 150Mbps data rate supports high-speed serial protocols like SPI at 50 MHz clock rates or parallel buses with tight timing margins. The 75kV/µs common-mode transient immunity is the spec that matters when this isolator sits between a gate driver and a controller on a motor drive or inverter: fast SiC/GaN switching edges can dump several kV/µs across the barrier, and if the isolator's CMTI is too low, data gets corrupted or the output latches. At 75kV/µs min, the ADUM240E0BRIZ handles those edges cleanly.
Package and rework considerations
Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body (7.50mm width) package, surface-mount. The wide-body SOIC gives good creepage distance for the 5000Vrms rating — about 8mm minimum depending on PCB layout. Rework is straightforward with hot air; the package has a visible pin-1 mark (beveled corner) so orientation is clear under a scope. No exposed pad, so no thermal-via stencil to worry about. Standard MSL level for iCoupler parts is typically MSL 1 or 3 — check the reel label before baking, but this package is forgiving.
Lifecycle and supply posture
ADI lists the ADUM240E0BRIZ as Active (current production). ROHS3 compliant.
