What this 4-channel iCoupler brings to the isolation barrier
The ADUM2401ARIZ-RL is a 4-channel digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler series, built around magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 5000Vrms of galvanic isolation across the barrier — enough for reinforced insulation in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and medical equipment where patient-contact isolation is required. The part runs from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply on each side, so it can bridge a 3.3V controller domain to a 5V field side without level translation. Three channels are configured from Side 1 to Side 2, one channel runs the opposite direction, covering common SPI or UART isolation patterns with a single device.
Rated at 1Mbps, this isolator handles most industrial serial buses — UART at 115.2 kbaud, SPI clock up to 1 MHz, and CAN at 1 Mbps — without stretching the timing budget. The 100ns max propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) and 40ns max pulse-width distortion mean the output pulse width stays close to the input; you will not see duty-cycle skew that trips up edge-triggered logic. Rise and fall times are a clean 2.5ns typical, which keeps signal integrity on short PCB traces without needing external slew control.
Common-mode transient immunity: 25kV/µs minimum
The 25kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the spec that matters when this isolator sits between a PWM motor drive and a controller. Fast switching edges on the high-voltage side can couple several kV/µs across the barrier; if the isolator's CMTI is too low, the output glitches or latches. At 25kV/µs minimum, the ADUM2401ARIZ-RL handles the transients typical in 3-phase inverter drives and industrial AC inputs without false bit flips.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50mm body width), the ADUM2401ARIZ-RL provides the creepage distance needed for 5000Vrms reinforced isolation — typically 8mm or more between input and output pins.
